Archaeology – Greek Statues Found

I don’t know about you, but I LOVE hearing about new finds in archaeology, paleontology, zoology, and all those other good -ologies. Every-so-often, I’ll report on cool finds. This qualifies as one of them….excavations recently revealed statues of Hera and Athena just off the stage in the 5,000 year old town Gortyn on Crete. They stand 6 feet tall. Athena is complete, but Hera is missing her head which they hope to find in the surrounding area. The statues were toppled in an earthquake in 367 AD. I’m waiting for the photos! I bet they are fantastic!

Missing Beethoven Found in Penn.

Hey, how’s this for an historical find? “Grosse Fuge” was found by a librarian in an archive near Philadelphia. It’s in Beethoven’s own hand and shows the process he was going through while writing it. It’s been missing for 115 years! That’d be something else to see!

Yahoo! et al Start Digitizing

Yahoo!, Adobe, O’Reilley, the Internet Archive, etc have formed the Open Content Alliance. Their mission is to “build a permanent archive of multilingual digitized text and multimedia content.” I’ve heard it referred to as “building the great library of Alexandria.” It’s a good thing to keep an eye on!
