Tuesday’s Treasure

Looks like we missed the Elgin National Road Race by a few days here…ha, ha, more like nearly 100 years… Anyway, enjoy the card from the Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin.

Tuesday’s Treasure

Whoa, this is something I had no idea we had anything even similar to - a postcard portrait of Johann Strauss from 1937! From the Lake County Discovery Museum.

Tuesday’s Treasure

How about some letter reading!? We have Alexander McDaniel’s notes written August 14, 1886 concerning his first arrival in Wilmette August 14, 1836 from the Wilmette Public Library District. Be sure to select “Page & Text” (and then hit go) from the pull-down menu so you read the transcription!

Tuesday’s Treasure

So today, how about we think about flowers. My daylilies are nearing the end of their season, except for the late ones, but I found this nice drawing of Ludwig Schmitt’s Carnation Greenhouse from the Skokie Public Library’s collection.

So, how about a little bit of good ole’ fashioned shopping here at Art Anderson’s General Store in Lake Zurich? From the Ela Area Public Library’s collection on Digital Past.

Tuesday’s Treasure

Today, I’m thinking of….picnics! So, how about a nice macaroni salad? Perhaps your macaroni was from the Foulds Macaroni Company in Libertyville? Perhaps not (I have no idea if they are still in business or not! Anyone know?)? From the Cook Memorial Public Library’s collection.

Tuesday’s Treasure

Sailboat Regatta Scheduled Here This Weekend! Wow, maybe somewhere, but not where I live…unless I went over to The Lake. I mean, we have a nice pond, but you’re only going to fit maybe 1 or 2 on there! Anyway, in 1966 the Sailboat Regatta was scheduled in Wauconda, from the Wauconda Area Library.

Tuesday’s Treasure

How about a building for a change!? I found this image of the old Wilmette Village Hall (1890-1910) from the Wilmette Public Library’s collection. I love how much work they put into the architectural description! Go Karen!

Tuesday’s Treasure

I’m happy to report that I have a lot more options for the Fourth of July on the Digital Past site now! Thanks everyone! This year we’ll go for a different kind of flag…one marching down 6th Street. This is from the Lake County Discovery Museum. Enjoy!

Tuesday’s Treasure

Wow, doesn’t this just cool you off, looking at that pretty blue lake? In case you don’t recognize it, this is the east end of “Pleasure Pier” (aka Navy Pier) from the Lake County Discovery Museum. Just such a pretty card!
