To Blog or Not to Blog?

There are 8 million blogs in the naked cyber-city, this is one of them. It was not love at first sight. I thought of blogs as self-indulgent ramblings. Great, now I, and many others, can bore a wider audience of unsuspecting cyber victims. It was driving me crazy! What is it about blogs that makes them so popular?

Then I started doing research. There is a lot of information out there. For each of the 8 million blogs there are probably 80 million articles about it. I learned that most of my friends and even my 16 year old daughter has a blog. Businesses are looking at blogs as the newest marketing tool. Special blogs have been created to record eyewitness accounts of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

Well that is great, but how does this all relate to libraries? How can we use blogs in our daily lives at the library? I started asking my colleagues and found that many of them have an internal blog to record daily events or share timely information. Some libraries use them to alert patrons to upcoming events or interesting books.
