Perennial SearcherJanuary 26, 2009 Pandia PowersearchPandia has created Powersearch, a page that lists search tools by category. It includes links to the following types of resources: search engines, directories, metasearchers, mapping services, microblog search tools, social search sites, bookmark-based searchers, databases, etc. You’re bound to learn something new by perusing this page and test driving some of its recommendations. posted by Brian at 5:05 pm | Comments (0) January 22, 2009 TwinglyTwingly is a blog search engine (think Technorati and Google Blog Search). Lately, this European company has rolled out its federated (think metasearch) microblog search tool. What distinguishes Twingly from the competition is its commitment to a spam-free index. If I correctly understand Twingly’s mission, it is to crawl the likes of other microblogging services such as Twitter, Jaiku, erstwhile Pownce, etc. Given the popularity of microblog posts (thanks in part to Obama’s use of Web 2.0 tools) and status updates, expect a crop of Twingly-like services to arise. Also of interest is Twingly’s list of its Top 100 Blogs. Bloggers themselves may want to consider embedding the Twingly widget into their feed. posted by Brian at 7:43 pm | Comments (0) January 6, 2009 Search Shifts and Predictions for 2009William Flaiz of Search Engine Watch polishes crystal ball and peers into the state of search in 2009. The burning question: what will become of search – - especially in these dire economic times. He predicts that search companies will focus less on innovation and more on revenue streams and advertising. Also, he ponders potential acquisitions? Who will buy Yahoo! Who will buy Ask.com? Most important, he contends that “local search” will be huge in 2009. posted by Brian at 10:43 am | Comments (0) January 5, 2009 Google’s FutureInteresting post from Search Engine Land, summarizing the direction that Google may take in 2009 and beyond. Briefly, expect more emphasis on universal search, personalization, social search, mobile search, and data storage (think digital health records). posted by Brian at 12:27 pm | Comments (0)
